The Following are answers to some common questions asked by prospective SoCal Dream members:
”Who is eligible to march with SoCal Dream?”
15 to 17 years old:
A family member, band director, or other approved sponsor or guardian must be involved with the corps as volunteer, member, or staff.
18 to 21 years old:
Membership is conditional. If you have the opportunity, march DCI.
22 years old and up:
March until your body tells you no.
”What do I need to become a part of SoCal Dream?”
You need a great attitude, an open mind, and an ability to consistently make our weekend rehearsals. Typically, we rehearse one or two weekends per month in the winter then expand our weekend schedule as the summer competition season approaches. We understand that schedule conflicts may arise and you may need to miss a rehearsal, and we try to work with this. However, SoCal Dream competes at a world-class level in DCI and DCA competition, so your attendance at rehearsals is very important.
”I don’t have my own horn. Is that a problem?”
No. SoCal Dream uses traditional G bugles and we have an inventory of loaner horns available. If you do not have your own, we can check one out to you.
”Do I need Drum Corps Experience?”
Previous marching experience is recommended, but not required. Every year, SoCal Dream has new members who have never previously marched with a drum corps. Under the guidance of our talented staff, you will learn quickly and become a world-class performer!
”What does it cost to join SoCal Dream?”
Our low dues make SoCal Dream one of the most economical corps to march. The dues cover hiring a world-class staff to teach the corps as well as some of the very best visual designers and music arrangers available. We know that money can be very tight and finding funds to join can be difficult. To help, we offer fundraising opportunities for members to offset their out of pocket expense.
”Where does SoCal Dream rehearse and how do you get there?”
SoCal Dream has partnered with the Goldenwest College athletics department. This partnership provides SoCal Dream with the facilities necessary to run the corps at a world class level. Goldenwest College is located at 15774 Golden West Street in Huntington Beach, CA., however, you should park in Lot J on the Gothard Street side of campus. From the 405 freeway, exit at Beach Blvd(south) then go west on Center Ave. Center Ave runs between Beach Blvd and Gothard St, on the south side of the 405 behind Bella Terra, and dead ends into lot J.
